There are some cars that define luxury and others that define prestige. Then there are others, which define the ideal and perfect car. One such vehicle is the GranTurismo from Maserati that first came into existence in the year 2007. With standard versions of the car kitted with a 4.2 litre V8 engine and a six speed gearbox, these certainly tick the box of in terms of “Speed”. Then there is the outer shell of the car that is unquestionably perfect and could be described as being a cross between a Ferrari and a Porsche. The interior needs to introduction whatsoever as it comes in an eloquent design that reminds of a prestige Bentley or Rolls Royce. And therefore, combining all of the above elements helps contribute the fact that the Maserati GranTurismo is indeed a perfect auto, which is quite rightly desired by many new and used Maserati enthusiasts. In fact, finding a used Maserati GranTurismo model could prove to be quite a difficult task due to the fact that owners are reluctant to give up their prized assets – and who are we to blame them! For those fortunate enough, there is also the GranTurismo S version, which is equipped with a 4.7 litre engine (as opposed to the standard versions’ 4.2 litre) and this is available in both manual and automatic transmission. Whatever the choice, buying a used Maserati is probably the only realistic hope for regular buyers but finding an owner to part with their possession is no easy feat. Therefore, it is important to research the possibilities and visit official used Maserati dealerships that may be able to assist in helping you locate a vehicle to purchase. There are many official Maserati dealerships in the UK and so to buy a used Maserati GranTurismo – visiting one of these dealerships will provide the best chance of success.

It seems that the Viper from Dodge has been around forever. In some ways it is the car that many people would describe if they were to be asked for a definition of a top-of-the-range sports car. From its visual representation to the speed at which it achieves, the Viper is very much a vehicle for those that enjoy the thrill of speed. At the time of writing there has been a total of four different generations of the Dodge Viper with each of these bringing their own distinction to the table. The first used Dodge Viper managed to reach 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and this certainly raised a few eyebrows at the time. Subsequent releases managed to improve on this and by the fourth generation Viper model, the 0 to 60 mph rate was set at an amazing 3.5 seconds. This therefore represented a decrease of 1.1 seconds and is no doubt one of the main contributors to this Dodge car being among the best around. To impressive even further, the new Dodge has a top speed of 202 mph, which marks yet another improvement on the used Dodge (first generation) that had a pegged top speed of 164 mph. Whilst this is still an extremely respectable achievement, the fact that an additional 38 mph has been added to the overall speed of the vehicle represents a fantastic improvement. What must also be pointed out is that as each new generation of the Dodge Viper has been introduced, each still carries the Viper look and feel and therefore its identity has never been lost. Many Dodge enthusiasts actually prefer to purchase the used Dodge of the first generation as it provides them with a piece of history. This two door Roadster is also a hot collectors’ item for the same reason.

There are many criteria that we take under consideration when choosing a used vehicle. Some people value high performance and for the others comfort is on the first place. In my opinion the best way is to combine those features and bet on something powerful and comfortable, something like a used Saab 9-3. The machine has very consistent acceleration which allows you to drive dynamically and safely maneuver. Once you get inside you will feel the luxury, leather seats offering you the great position and smooth shifting transmission. Deciding to purchase a used Saab 9-3 is choosing a car that cares for the safety of all the passengers, even the mirrors have a built in blind spot section. The vehicle has an enormous size of boot space suitable for transporting loads of cargo. The price is in my opinion is very attractive and offers much more features for the same money when compared with the competition. Of course there are some weak points like an average stereo system, but overall it is a very good deal and a choice worth to recommend.

Recently we have been writing about “green used vans”. Of course the idea of a car that has insignificant or hasn’t got any influence on environment is supported by everyone. The problem is that no one is actually trying to put this idea into life or to be precise to put the cars into use. For most governments the most important argument is that electric cars is a great boost for the economy since the prizes of oil go up all the time. Lower cost of transport means lower prices of service and products. What is more the “fuel” does not have to come from some giant corporation from Middle East, USA or Russia – it will be produced by the power plants in the country. The electric van user will pay money to electric power provider and the provider will pay taxes to the government. Everyone (including society) makes profits on this transaction. All that has to be done is design a practical electric motor van that may be a substitute for diesel/petrol cars. Truth is that such cars already exist. Take Modec Electric Van for example. It is a 100miles range truck which can go with maximum speed of 50mph and has two tons of carrying capacity. The truck comes in different versions depending on the customer requirements. The 70kW motor of this truck is powered by two 288volt sodium-nickel-chloride batteries (Li-Ion are also available). The batteries have 8 hour charge time but the energy is also retrieved by the regenerative breaking system. The car dodges congestion charge, road tax and the driver does not have to have any additional operator license. Modec can go without any service for 20000miles and that is because the motor has only 3 moving parts. Not much that can be used.
The cars have already been in use in such companies as Tesco, Center Parcs, Hildon Water. But they are still a minority. The best way to popularize this kind of transport is to provide public service institutions with machines like Modec. So again its all in hands of the government. So why it is not as popular as it should be? Well the ones that profit from electric cars unpopularity are the oil companies so they are the ones that might know the answer.

Ok so we know that here in the UK we love to spend money and that can often leaves us with credit card bills and exceeded overdraft limits! After a while, things can catch up on us and we therefore get “in debt”. Yes, the dreaded word; debt! With debt and a lack of repayments being made, we are then tarnished with having bad car credit. This is then recorded on our credit report, which is available to all financial institutes and subsequently we are given a lower ‘credit score’. Once these are official, it then affects certain things such as applying for car credit, loans, mortgages and even mobile phone contracts. It can be a real pain and very difficult to get any type of credit unless you are willing to pay extortionate amounts of interest / APR rates on borrowed monies. Luckily I have quite a good track record in terms of credit and so am not affected. However, I have seen many people suffer because of this and believe me, having bad credit isn’t a nice situation to be in. Eventually it could lead to a CCJ (county court judgement) being placed against your name and then things really do become more difficult.

In times of gasoline prices going up and down, some producers start to think of models which can use alternative fuels and still remain fully operative. A sort of pioneer in this field, LDV, is planning to introduce a new useable electronic van of Maxus. This vehicle is known as the EVV1- van and the ECV1 chassis cab and it has been designed to maximise load space and operate in a very similar way to that of exciting diesel engine models with aim to capitalise from the adoption of the new technology. These new and used vans are powered by lithium batteries which are designed as being state of the art. It is offered with different payload options and range as well as top speed. Technical specifications of the vehicle are still being sought and investigated. The target expectation is to have a top-speed of 55 miles per hour and with a range of around 85 miles, manual five-gear transmission and a payload of up to 1446 kilograms. The full battery charge is expected to be achieved within 4 hours or 80 percent of charge within some 2 hours basing on a 3-phase electricity supply. For travel safety a facility known as ‘get me home’ has been installed. It restricts the output of energy from the battery when the level of energy is below 15 percent so that the range is maximised and the driver can get back home.

It is interesting to see how the Internet seems to be taking over in terms of searching for used cars don’t you think? However, although as a search to find tool, Internet is the easiest and no doubt quickest way to find a car, we as buyers still purchase from a car dealer / showroom. As it is one of, if not the largest purchases we make aside from a property, buying a car is an important process. Considering the checks you may carry out prior to purchasing your next car, we need to make the right purchase. I always suggest that people have someone reliable with them by their side when searching for a new vehicle. This could be someone who understands about cars and therefore can offer advice and guidance during the different stages of the buying process. Reputable dealers have certificates and trade associations that require some kind of compliancy as well as offering a buyer legal rights. This is not offered from private sellers and so understanding things like this will stand a buyer in good stead. Therefore, having someone with such knowledge (assuming the buyer does not of course), may be extremely important. Vehicles can and should be inspected by a trained mechanic as a way of offering some kind of assurance that the car is indeed in a decent working order. Some cars are seen as being a bargain but the maintenance and running costs should be taken into consideration before going through with a purchase. Examples of running costs could be road tax, fuel costs, and insurance premiums and even service/repair costs.

In Western Europe it is probably only older drivers who may remember the origin of the brand name of Dacia. Previously a Romanian car producing company, and now a part of Renault, they concern themselves with making low-cost cars. Recently Dacia decided to introduce its new car to the car supermarket. The launch of the Dacia’s latest model took place at the Barcelona Motor Show. The company called its new car “Stepway” and it is a sportier looking version of its Sandero. The newer version is aimed at the younger market due to its modified design and a few slight differences to its hatchback sibling. It has a raised ground clearance, satin-finished chrome front and rear skid-plates / sills, roof-bars and an exhaust finished in chrome. The new car performance will depend on the target market and will be available with two new engines. The first is a 1.6 litre petrol unit delivering a horsepower of 90 and the latter an eco-friendly dCi70 with a horsepower of 70. Sander Stepway will also remain front wheel drive. The new Dacia car will also receive good levels of comfort and plenty of space, which will include many features such as electric windows, 16’ alloy wheels, central locking and foldable rear seats. Looking at its general description, it may be perceived as being a perfect car for young people with lower budgets, but also aspires to have a new car of relatively good quality and standard. The Dacia Sandero Stepway is expected to reach European showrooms by September 2009.

A new study by the Oireachtas Committee into Climate Change is calling on the UK government to set more ambitious targets on increasing the use of electric vehicles. New electric cars are seen as environmentally friendly, leaving virtually no pollution and, still, able to cover long distance and offer comfortable travelling standards. The committee also would like to see the project fast-tracked to ensure all new cars on sale by the year 2020 are electric. Such action would also stimulate operations of establishments that convert fuel cars into electric ones.

If new regulations were to come into force, some users liking their current models would have to go and simply change their engines from fuel to electric. There are some car producers already offering new electric cars, such as “Lightning” for example, but prices of such models are still pretty high. If electronic and hybrid power cars were set standard by 2020, their price would have to become affordable and this, in turn, would have to make car producers reduce prices of current new cars with fuel engines. As it is in case of any technological change - there will surely be some for whom such a shift may not pay off or who will simply not like it. But here also the environmental topic is at stake.
